Mitarakis: \u201cEurope must deal decisively with the migration crisis, as some countries instrumentalize human suffering for geopolitical reasons.\u2019\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Europe must deal decisively with the migration crisis.\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qDtcPml2IBU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The informal Council of Internal Affairs of the EU, which was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, was attended by the Minister for Migration and Asylum, Mr. Notis Mitarachi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the issues discussed was the progress of negotiations of the new European Migration and Asylum Pact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his intervention, Mr. Mitarachi pointed out \u201cthe need for Europe to deal decisively with the migration crisis, as some countries are instrumentalizing human suffering for geopolitical reasons in several parts of Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister for Migration and Asylum emphasised, among other issues, that \u201ca common policy is needed for the external dimension as well as the protection of borders. This is the responsibility of the Member States, in order  to manage effective returns for those who are not entitled to international protection.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Referring to the new Migration and Asylum Pact, Mr. Mitarachi added that \u201cprogress must be made so that the new pact is based on the principle of solidarity between Member States.
