\u201cGreece implements a tough but fair migration policy and fully respects its obligations under international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hellenic Coast Guard has saved tens of thousands of lives in the Aegean Sea in recent years and thanks to their efforts, in 2020 we have had only one fatal incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite the attempt by Turkey to weaponize the migration crisis and despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to provide asylum to eligible applicants. \u00a0
Currently our county hosts 160 thousand refugees and asylum seekers.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the same time, we will continue to protect vigorously the borders of the European Union as provided by national and European law.
We strongly deny claims made to the contrary. We note that the Turkish Coastguard is mentioned as a source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
