Description: The primary objective of the project is to strengthen the infrastructure of the Asylum Service and the Appeals Authority to ensure the continuous and smooth operation of the Asylum Service, as well as the effective access of asylum seekers to the asylum procedures (first and second instance), in compliance with the Greek, European, and international law. The enhancement of access is deemed particularly important due to the continuously increasing volume of international protection applications and the need for the Service to provide improved conditions for access and accommodation. The purpose of the project is supported by a range of deliverables, including the provision of security and cleaning services for the buildings of the Asylum Service involved in the asylum application process, security measures, improvements in accessibility for socially vulnerable groups, and better living conditions in areas designated for asylum seekers.

Description: The primary objective of the project was the strengthening of the human resources of the Asylum Service and enhancing its operational capacity to ensure its uninterrupted and smooth functioning, as well as safeguarding the quality of the submission and examination process for international protection applications, in accordance with Greek, European, and refugee law. The improvement of access is considered particularly significant due to the continuously increasing volume of international protection applications . The project's purpose was supported by the deliverables of the action, which include: The recruitment of personnel through public calls FTC 5/2016, FTC 8/2016, FTC 1/2017, FTC 2/2017, FTC 1/2019, and FTC 2/2019. The establishment of working groups to increase the number of decisions on asylum applications and their related support actions. Lastly, training and capacity-building activities for the personnel of the Asylum Service on matters related to the asylum granting process and legal issues concerning refugees.

Description: The action focused on facilitating asylum seekers’ access to asylum procedures (provision of housing units), strengthening the infrastructure of the Asylum Service through the provision of interpretation and translation services, implementing information campaigns about the asylum process, providing information specifically for unaccompanied minors, and arranging the transfer of applicants for international protection to a Member State identified as responsible for examining international protection applications submitted in Greece by third-country nationals or stateless persons.

Description: As part of the proposed action, a mobile application was developed to provide a wide range of information for applicants for international protection moving from the country's external borders to its interior, particularly those with a refugee profile. The application addressed a significant gap in information for these groups, while also facilitating their access to asylum application procedures.

Description: Applicants for international protection are provided free legal assistance as part of the administrative procedure at the second instance, in accordance with Government Gazette JMD 12205/2016 (2864 /Β'/ 09-09-2016) JMD 3651/14.02.2019 (Government Gazette 528/Β'2019), with no. 3686/19.02.2020 (Government Gazette 1009/t. B/24.03.2020) and JMD 3449/2021 (Government Gazette 1482/Β'/13.04.2021), 788502/2022 (Government Gazette 42/. Β'/11.01.2023). This assistance is funded by resources from the Asylum, Migration, and Integration Fund, in accordance with the specific terms and conditions of the Ministerial Decision under Article 7, paragraph 8, of Law 4375/2016 (Α’ 51) and Law 4636/2019 (Α’ 169). Under the same terms, legal assistance is also provided for procedures before the Committees, as stipulated in paragraph 27 of Article 80 of Law 4375/2016 (Α’ 51).

Description: The Action pertains to the implementation of all aspects of the relocation process for 63,531 applicants who have submitted an application for international protection in Greece to the territory of other Member States. Relocation applies to applicants of nationalities for which the average recognition rate at the European level is above 75%, with priority given to vulnerable applicants.
The Action provides for:
A) the identification process of applicants eligible for relocation to other Member States by the Asylum Service, and
B) the transfer of applicants for international protection from Greece to the Member State of relocation, a process executed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), as the implementing body of the relocation program in accordance with paragraph 5 of Article 8 of the Legislative Act (Government Gazette 182/Issue A/24-12-2015).
The Action implemented the temporary measures established by Council Decisions (EU) 2015/1523 of 14 September 2015 and 2015/1601 of 22 September 2015 in the field of international protection in favor of Italy and Greece, aiming to provide support to these Member States to better address the urgent situation caused by the sudden influx of nationals of third countries into their territories.
