Μeeting of the Minister of Migration and Asylum Mr. Notis Mitarachi with the of Minister of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment of Bangladesh, Mr. Imran Ahmed

The Minister of Migration and Asylum, Mr. Notis Mitarachi, met today in Athens, with the Minister of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment of Bangladesh, Mr. Imran Ahmed.

The two Ministers discussed thoroughly the ways to strengthen the cooperation between Greece and Bangladesh, in the fields of legal migration and the fight against illegal.

Mr. Mitarachi and Mr. Ahmed agreed on the need to promote legal channels of migration with rules against smuggling networks that put people’s lives at risk.

In this context, the two Ministers signed a declaration of intentions with a view to establish technical consultations between the Ministries and finalize in due course a Memorandum of Understanding covering both legal migration issues and facilitating the return of illegal migrants.

Minister Ahmed invited Mr. Mitarachi to visit Bangladesh in the coming months, in order to continue their productive talks.

After the meeting, the Minister of Migration and Asylum stated:

“With Bangladesh we are seeking to strengthen our coordination and Cooperation and we observed convergence of views and common will on the issues I have mentioned. I hope that I will have the opportunity to respond to an invitation from my counterpart and visit Bangladesh in the coming months.”
