The Minister of Migration and Asylum, Mr. Dimitris Kairidis, participated today in the EU Council of Ministers meeting for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration in Brussels.
During his interventions at the Council, Mr.Kairidis focused on the external dimension and the need for better protection at Europe’s borders.
He called for the reinforcement of Frontex, described the dangers posed by the situation in the Middle East and called for the enhancement of European support to Egypt, in light of the agreement between Egypt and the EU.
Addressing the Council, Mr. Kairidis remarked that “Today's Council of Ministers is taking place at a very critical time, as the news from both the Middle East and from Ukraine remains troubling. Greece seeks the maximum possible cooperation and solidarity with its European partners on issues related both to the Eastern Mediterranean route from Turkey as well as the Central Mediterranean route in light of of the EU-Egypt Agreement."
