The Minister of Migration & Asylum Mr. Dimitris Kairidis had today in Brussels an informative meeting in a very friendly atmosphere with the Commissioner for Migration & Home Affairs, Mrs. Ylva Johansson, with whom they discussed and examined ways of responding to the current challenges of the migration and refugee issues.
The Greek Minister said that the agreement reached last month between the Member States of the European Union is an important first step but, as Mr. Kairidis stressed, "there is still much to be done". He also underlined that "Greece consistently supports more European solutions to common challenges".
Both agreed that there should be a constant communication between them in the context of their institutional role given that the migration and refugee issues is a constant and major problem both for Greece which is the external border for the European Union itself.
Mr. Kairidis invited, and Mrs. Johansson accepted the invitation to visit Greece and attend the Med5 meeting that our country will host this coming Autumn.
