The Minister of Migration and Asylum, Mr. Notis Mitarachi, met today with the Minister of Interior of Albania, Mr. Bledar Çuçi, at the premises of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum. Mr. Mitarachi and Mr. Çuçi exchanged views on the challenges facing the two countries in the Balkan migration corridor and identified the need for further development of bilateral cooperation in the field of border control, returns and legal migration.
The current developments in Ukraine and the activation of the temporary protection scheme for the displaced Ukrainians were also at the epicentre of the discussion, and as Mr. Çuçi stated, this is already implemented by Albania on the basis of voluntary adoption of the relevant European Directive.
Mr. Mitarachi presented to his Albanian counterpart the new approach of the Ministry for legal migration and more specifically the scheme of five-year residence permits for seasonal work.
