N. Mitarachi: ‘’We must protect the borders of the EU, so that will never again have to deal with the problem of overcrowding of refugees and migrants.’’

Παρίσι: Συνάντηση του Υπουργού Μετανάστευσης και Ασύλου, κ. Νότη Μηταράκη, με τον Υπουργό Εσωτερικών της Γαλλίας κ. Gerald Darmanin

The Minister of Migration and Asylum, Mr. Notis Mitarachi, met in Paris with the Minister of Interior of France, Mr. Gerald Darmanin.

The meeting took place after the invitation of Mr. Darmanin, in the context of France taking over the EU Presidency this semester.

The talks focused on issues related to migration management, border protection and the ongoing negotiations of the European Migration and Asylum Pact.

After the talks, Mr. Mitarachi made the following statement:

"I thank Mr Darmanin for giving the impetus to the debate on the new Μigration and Asylum Pact. Greece has two specific goals. First, we want actions that will reduce the flows in the EU and second, a solidarity dynamism that will come to support the first reception countries. We are waiting for the proposals of the French Presidency. From what I understand they are in this direction. What we said today in Paris is that the new Pact must never again put pressure on our islands and borders.

We must protect the borders of the EU, so that will never again have to deal with a problem of overcrowding of refugees and migrants. There is optimism that the French Presidency will come soon with concrete proposals. Greece, by participating MED5 Ministerscontributes to the facilitation of the processes. We need to replace the Dublin Regulation, which no longer meets the needs of the EU."
