The Minister of Migration and Asylum, Mr. Notis Mitarachi, had a meeting today in Brussels, with the President of the European Parliament, Mrs. Roberta Metsola.
Their discussion focused on the coordination and management of refugee flows from Ukraine to the EU Member States as well as the negotiations on the new Migration and Asylum Pact. Moreover the Minister of Migration and Asylum presented the current situation of migration management in Greece.
Mr. Mitarachi and Mrs. Metsola, agreed on the need for a joint response of all EU Member States, in order to draw up an immediate plan for providing the appropriate and necessary conditions for the reception and hospitality of Ukrainian refugees.
On the negotiation of the Pact, Mr. Mitarachi expressed the concern that front-line countries are being criticized for protecting the borders and at the same time for secondary flows. In this regard, the Minister for Migration and Asylum pointed out the need to find the necessary balance between responsibility and solidarity in the new Migration and Asylum Pact.
Tomorrow, 03/03/2022, the Minister of Migration and Asylum will participate in the Council of Ministers of Justice and Home Affairs of the EU.
